Valley of the Gods

Valley of the Gods is one more spectacular example of the forces which shaped the Colorado Plateau. About two and a half hours south of Moab, Valley of the Gods is located on BLM land and is peppered with sandstone pillars and buttes, and wide open desert that stretches to the horizon. We drove there with the intention of spending the day hiking but by the time we arrived, the sun was high in the sky and we opted for taking a walk along the dirt road which bisects the area. There were a few campers here and there but on the whole it had the feeling of being miles from civilization. After an hour or so of walking down the road we turned around and made our way back to the car. As we walked, we reflected on the beauty of the arid landscape and how our presence here was only a flicker in its geologic timeline; a thought that has been with us throughout the entire journey and one which will continue to pervade our thoughts.
