White Sands National Monument

Neither of us had been to White Sands National Monument before but we were thoroughly pleased with our short stop here. White Sands delivers stunning views of rare white gypsum dunes; the largest in the world. We stopped here to stretch our legs during the six-hour drive from Las Cruces to Angel Fire and hiked the short Dune Life Nature Trail and the Interdune Boardwalk. As we walked, our eyes were continually tricked by the white sand which looks just like a fresh coat of powdery snow. The scenery was spectacular as we've noticed so much throughout this trip, unlike anything else. Stopping here was well worth the detour!
